Can you tell us more about yourself? How did you get into graphic design?

I started in the early nineties as a graffiti writer with a strong passion for 3D letter styles.

After quitting school at the age of 17, I tried to make a living out of graffiti but this was kinda hard and was forced to do all kind of odd jobs, those that don't require a diploma. From the docks to flipping burgers.

A few years later I bought my first computer, a Mac G3 and started making flyers, from strip joints to the major music events. This gave me the chance to experiment with classic graphic design techniques as well as 3D design.

After a few years I focused more on 3D animation and started freelancing for international studios and agencies like Tronic Studio, Buck, Transistor Studios, Hello Hikimori,…

In 2007 I was headhunted to become Creative Director at a New York based Broadcast Design company. However, at that same time I was starting to break into the Belgian advertising industry and he decided to stay in Belgium.

After a successful European campaign for Peugeot in 2010 there was a lot of interest coming from abroad and since then I've been working continuously across the globe with the main advertising agencies.

Did you have prolific artistic influences, growing up?

My family was not so much into art, but my father was a toy inventor, not the biggest fan of art but sure a MacGyver...

So I didn't get proper art education during my youth but got continuously triggered by innovation and creativity.

I do sometimes miss the knowledge and try to catch up, but on the other hand all of this just might be an advantage as you approach things differently

What is a day like for you? What activity takes the most time of your day?

When working, it's mostly around 10 to 14 hours a day. 70% creative, 30% making estimates, answering emails, administration, Facebook, etc...

I am most productive when everyone is sleeping and that's hard when you work across the globe.
