Photoshop CC 2019 brings you the new Frame tool, Content-Aware Fill workspace, and Symmetry Mode for the brush tool. There's also a heck lot of small improvements. This video by Denny's Tips will show you everything you need to know about the new Photoshop CC 2019 update.

1. Frame Tool

Designers have been switching from Photoshop to UI tools like Adobe XD. Photoshop's Frame tool takes the placeholder feature of UI software and puts it into Photoshop. You can now draw placeholder frames with ease.

This tool can be found in the toolbar or by pressing the hotkey K. If you don't see it, go to Edit > Toolbar to restore it. Some default workspaces hide this tool (ex. the Photography workspace).

After drawing a frame, you can drag and drop an image into it. The image will not go outside the frame's boundaries. Although you can do this with layer/vector masks, the Frame tool removes that unnecessary step.

2. Content-Aware Fill Workspace

Using the content-aware fill tool used to mean a lot of undoing/redoing. With the new workspace, you can remove objects better. To access this workspace, make a selection of the object you'd like to remove (using any selection tools), then go to Edit > Content-Aware Fill.

3. Multiple Undos

Unlike other software, the Ctrl/Cmd+Z key didn't work like normal in Photoshop. Adobe had reasons for this, but it was barely rational.

New in Photoshop CC 2019, the undo hotkey works normally. Hurray, I guess.

If you don't like the change, you can undo it by going to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts. Checkmark the 'Use Legacy Undo Shortcuts" then click OK.

4. Symmetry Mode

Select the Brush tool (B). In the options bar (below the menus), you'll see a butterfly icon on the right. This is a new brush mode called "Symmetry". There are 10 styles to choose from and it lets you draw items with varying styles of symmetry.

5. A Long List of Improvements

There's a large collection of smaller improvements that I would consider the main feature of this update.

Usability and Interface:

• You can enter simple math formulas into fields (ex. 5*5 instead of 25).
• The interface can scale according to the font size. This setting is in Edit > Preferences > Interface > Scale UI To Font.

View Modes:

• Flip your document horizontally without changing any of your layers (View > Flip Horizontal).

Move Tool:

• In the options bar, you'll find a new "Distribute Spacing" mode which positions your layers evenly according to the spacing. This is the same feature found in Adobe Illustrator.

Type  Tool:

• Using the type tool automatically places "Lorem Ipsum" sample text. This lets you see your font and font size immediately.

Layers Panel:

• Hovering over the blending mode menu items show you a preview of it.
• You can see the end of long layer names.

Color Panel:

• The new color wheel can be accessed in the panel menu (top-right) of the Color Panel.

Languages:

• The Match Font tool (Type > Match Font) can detect Japanese fonts.
• Photoshop supports Thai, Burmese, Lao, Sinhalese, and Khmer
