step25b

Proceed to give more highlight to the areas around the roof and bricks.

step25c

Here is the result.

step25d

Is it done? I am afraid it is not yet.

Step 26

But don’t worry, the next few steps will be the last and most interesting ones after doing much cutting out and masking here and there, I take it as guarantee :). We will add subtle light rays to the scene. What we should do first is to create a new adjustment layer on the topmost position in the layer panel. Go for the last one to layer > new adjustment layers > selective color. Set the value as below:

step26a

Here is the result of the adjustment layer. The scene is covered in subtle misty white.

step26b

We don’t need the whole effect of the selective color layer. So we will hide the effect. Make sure we are active on the mask thumbnail of this layer. Hit ctrl+I to invert the mask meaning that the mask is fully filled with black to hide the effect. We will reveal the effect of this layer on some areas where the light rays will be added. To do this, take a very soft round brush set to a low opacity of about 10%. With white color, stroke gently the areas where the light rays should be smoothly visible.

step26c

Here the result for inspiration.

step26d

We can reduce the orange color of the light if we feel it too much. Go to each window folder, reduce the opacity of them to about 55-60%.

step26e

  1. How do I "Mask some the edges of this layer"? I have cut out the section of grass as instructed, but there is a line on the edge of the cut out that I have not been able to remove or blend so the line is not seen. Guidance would be appreciated.

  2. Step 21 - #fdg601? (cs 5.1 doesn't appear to be taking the 'g' in this color?) is this my mistake?

    1. I believe that's a 9 - not a g.

Sorry for the confusion! I'll update step 21 to clear things up.

  3. I am working on this tutorial and thus far this is great!!!! I do have a few little questions and that is like in step 28 where the value in the radius appears to be 3,7 ? what is that suppose to be with a comma between the two numeric values?

    1. It should actually be a period; not a comma. So the correct value is 3.7 and not 3,7.
