    1. I think I'm missing something - can you elaborate? You won't burn out the details if you don't intentionally crush the shadows/highlights. The same thing will happen even if your image is in Lab mode. And the downside of Lab mode is that your colors will shift... so it's best not to change your color mode unless you need to.
