Is Affinity Photo faster than Photoshop? Not always. Most of the filters in Affinity Photo are faster and the software uses significantly less RAM and VRAM. Affinity Photo also has some tricks up its sleeve to make the interface “feel” snappier (not actually faster).
Photoshop still excels at things like the Camera Raw Editor which is way faster and smoother than Affinity Photo’s Develop Persona. Photoshop’s startup time is also faster by a couple seconds.
On slower computers with 4GB of RAM or less, Affinity Photo will feel faster because it uses less resources. On faster computers with 8GB of RAM or more, the performance benefit Affinity Photo has is minimal and should not be the deciding factor for choosing Affinity Photo. Instead, you should be looking at things like features, pricing, and how it fits your workflow.

Poorly researched. Open a large PSB in Affinity – it takes 2x-3x longer to load, and uses 3x more RAM than Photoshop.

Totally agree with the comments on using less RAM. In my case since I uninstalled all software and apps from Creative Cloud, I have experienced a huge improvement in my cpu and memory resources. I believe that Creative Cloud was very intrusive with the OS (Win 10 in my case). It was always scanning something using a lot of CPU and RAM.

I have 4 GB and I’m finding that affinity is WAY slower than than even the old Photoshop CS2. It’s taking up far, far, far, too much memory in task manager way more than Photoshop ever did and crashing nearly every time it’s used. Plus causing other programs to crash along with it. It’s frozen up every single time I’ve use it. I’m trying to get an answer for this on the website. Designer gave me some trouble but nothing like Photo has.

I haven’t used Affinity lately but I remember there were certain tools and parts of Affinity Photo that were faster and others that were slower.

Seriously? You compare it to CS2? Try compare Photoshop CC 2020 to CS2 then.

Hi,Thanks for the review. It was very helpful.
Affinity Photo Is great for quick and easy photo editing, and moderate illustration and photo compositing. Affinity Photo also has far better performance than Photoshop, on my computer at least. I have a XP-Pen Deco 03 grapic tablet for Affinity Photo work (photo rectouching ) .
Altogether, I think Photoshop will be the essential photo editing + illustration tool for the time being. But I don’t think it would hurt to invest in Affinity Photo . -
Only 49.99$ for AP license. Not bad for beginner.
