How did you get started as an illustrator?

I started as a follower of many great artists on DeviantArt for no reason in particular while I was in highschool, I used to draw back then but I didn't think much about that being art or something of the sort, after some time I developed a huge interest to be as good as the people I was following online because it seemed for me that they were expressing everything they wanted so easily and somehow beautiful, I was jealous. So I began to practice, at first with pencil and then almost right away I wanted to give it a shot to Photoshop, so I did, every day, couple years later I enrolled in the university to study visual arts because I thought my expectations of the art world were a bit shallow, I realized that art school was worse, but somehow I learned about my process and some of the reasons of why I enjoy so much to create something, and here I am.

How do you come up with new ideas? Do you have a process? If so, what is it?

I do have a little thing I do before I start something, I like to browse through Behance or Deviantart to see the latest works of some of my favorite artists there, that inspires me a lot, I like to see their palettes, the way they use light, their subjects, etc, then I put my favorite music or the news on, and start to fill out the canvas. Most of the times I already know what I want, the concept at least, the idea may change in the process but I think the original thing always stays put.

What is the best experience you've had as an illustrator?

Hum. Working with talented people outside of my campus, for example, with a writer or with a music band. Currently I’m working with a writer and even though I cannot know much about the whole storyline or the characters I feel that my images are coming to life from the voice of someone else, I think that it’s incredible, that moment when you picture something in your head and somehow that picture resonates in the head of someone else.
